OceanFirst Helps Bridgeton Launch Healthy Food Express

BRIDGETON, N.J. -

The City of Bridgeton is rolling out a new program to help bring summer meals to kids.

Mayor Albert Kelly along with representatives from the OceanFirst Foundation and members of the community gathered in Bridgeton on Thursday, August 24th, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially launch the Healthy Food Express program, which will bring meals to kids in need in the area.

The program includes a new state-of-the-art bus that will shuttle healthy and nutritious meals.

Officials hope the program will help close the food insecurity gap and are happy to finally see the project in action.

"We offer lots of programs that benefit kids, but this is the first time that we've ever seen anything like this," said Kathy Durante, executive director for OceanFirst Foundation. "It's just such an incredible idea to bring the food to the kids where they need it most."

"I'm thrilled because this is something that we've talked about among our staff, and to see an idea come to fruition: from an idea to funding to now we have it actually on the road servicing people. I'm euphoric," said Kelly.

At the ceremony, the OceanFirst Foundation awarded the project an additional $10,000.
