The Vermont Healthy Food in Healthcare Network presented an award to Roger Allbee, CEO at Grace Cottage Hospital, for all of his years of support and dedication in bringing locally sourced healthy food to Vermonters.

We’ve known Roger Allbee since 2008 during his tenure as Vermont Secretary of Agriculture.

His contributions include policy and networking support to our group, leaders in healthcare, food hubs, and research programs with UVM. He has been instrumental in the re-birth of Agriculture and supporting local farms and producers. Roger has been very instrumental in leadership and financial support with his nutrition department’s sustainable food program and community health team projects. Grace Cottage has increased their local food dollar spend from 10 % to 35% in total food expenditures over the past several years.

He assisted Grace Cottage by approving its nutrition budget, allowing Grace Cottage to make significant changes to the local foods being offered to patients, staff, and the community at large;

Roger had a cameo appearance in our video, “Food is Medicine” released by VAAHS (Vermont Association of Hospitals and Health Systems), and produced by the University of Vermont Medical Center where he explained the importance of the Vermont Healthy Food in Health Care Network and the role that healthy nutritious foods play in patient care and the re-birth of Agriculture and healthcare’s important key role in providing locally grown nutritious food.

Mr. Allbee, thank you for your generosity and stewardship. You have made a difference in many lives throughout Vermont. We present this gift to you in appreciation of your years of dedication and work.

The Vermont Healthy Food in Healthcare Network is a group of food service professionals encompassing 13 Vermont healthcare facilities and DHMC in Lebanon, N.H. who work closely throughout the year sharing ideas, developing strategies to improve the food for our patients, visitors, and staff while supporting our local economy and building a local, sustainable food system. We work closely with local farmers, food producers, distributors, and our communities. Vermont healthcare nutrition network has been recognized nationally for our achievements in collaborating with the medical community to support and improve the health of Vermonters. Collectively, our local purchasing practices have contributed millions of dollars in the state of Vermont‘s Agriculture system.

The Simon Pearce newly designed piece was presented by Jamie Baribeau, Director Food and Nutrition at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and current chair of Vermont Healthy Food in Healthcare Network.
