Food News: New Plant-Based Restaurant Emerges at Ghost Kitchen - Houstonia Magazine

Clean Vegg is now open via the ghost kitchen at 5832 Fairdale Ln. The restaurant owned and operated by Wes McVickers (a drummer whose credits include work with singer Eric Benét) features health-focused bowls, jackfruit tacos, and salads. It's open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday–Saturday and delivers within a five-mile radius of its location in the Galleria area. You can also pick up the food from the ghost kitchen. Either way, here's how to order.

Speaking of new spots, Killen's Barbecue is now officially open in The Woodlands. The restaurant at 8800 Six Pines Dr in The Woodlands is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday–Sunday. It offers dine-in and takeout service, and online ordering is available. Naturally, you can get Central Texas barbecue here with sides like potato salad, macaroni and cheese, and beans, along with desserts like bread pudding, carrot cake, and banana pudding.

Good news continues to roll in for the Houston Food Bank. Huntsman Corporation has donated $200,000 to the organization for relief efforts in response to February's winter storm.

"We want to extend a special thank you to our friends at Huntsman Corporation for their generous donation, which will provide 600,000 meals to families in need after the winter storm that hit our region," says Brian Greene, president and CEO of the Houston Food Bank. "While the storm may be over, the effects of this disaster on our neighbors will last for weeks and months to come. This donation certainly illustrates Huntsman’s core value of responsibility and commitment to community. We could not do this work without partners like Huntsman."

Finally, Lucille's owner and executive chef Chris Williams, who's also the founder of the nonprofit Lucille's 1913, was in the spotlight Friday on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt. Williams and brother Ben, founder of Highway Vodka, were part of the "Inspiring America" feature, which showed the work the family has been doing to feed and help Houstonians.
