SFC Austin Looks To Increase Access To Local, Healthy Food - Patch.com

AUSTIN, TX—Amid the pandemic, and recent unprecedented winter weather storms, Texans have had much to contend with in a short period of time. As Austin continues to grapple with much of the storm's damage, and the impact of the ongoing health crisis, community support has never been more important.

Sustainable Food Center (SFC), whose mission is to cultivate a just and sustainable food system so people and the environment can thrive, encourages the community to consider supporting their efforts with donations through the Amplify Austin initiative from March 4- March 5, 2021. AmplifyATX.org is a resource for giving to local causes in Central Texas. Designed to help Central Texas begin to recover, and early gifts support nearly 700 nonprofits in critical need.

In order to ensure local food continues its essential role in nourishing communities, SFC seeks to raise $22,000 to support local farmers, increase access to healthy, local food in Austin, and advance policies to support a healthy community for all. Your Amplify Austin gift helps SFC:

  • Support the long-term health of Central Texans by offering free cooking and nutrition classes, and free gardening education and resources to our local community.
  • Increase access to healthy, local food by providing Double Up Food Bucks for SNAP and WIC participants at farmers' markets and mobile markets throughout Austin.
  • Support Central Texas farmers and ranchers by offering business support services, buyer matchmaking, and customer connections at our SFC Farmers' Markets.
  • Advance policies that support regenerative agriculture and food security for communities that face systemic barriers to healthy food.
