Hamilton woman credits 'lazy keto' diet for 100-pound weight loss - CANOE

A Hamilton woman says she lost 100 pounds in a year following a “lazy keto” diet.

Megan Faraday, 25, told Good Morning America that she spent a “whole lifetime” of dieting and binge eating.

“I woke up one morning and was like ‘I’m going to try keto and see if it sticks,’ and it did,” Faraday said.

The so-called “lazy keto” is a more relaxed version of the high-fat, low-carb diet. The “dirty keto” is another popular variation of the diet.

Instead of tracking all the macronutrients she consumed, Faraday said she simply focused on eating less carbs.

“I figured out how to calculate net carbs (the total grams of carbohydrates in a food minus the grams of fibre) and just went from there,” Faraday said.

Her approach meant transitioning from a diet full of fast food, breads, potatoes and pasta to one that included fresh vegetables and lean proteins.

Her diet plan quickly paid off as she lost 15 pounds within the first month.

“I’ve now started to reintroduce carbohydrates back into my diet, aiming for 75 to 100 grams of carbs per day,” Faraday told Women’s Health. “This works for me because I am still losing weight, but in a way that I will be able to sustain for the rest of my life.

The young fitness enthusiast said at her heaviest two years ago, she weighed a whooping 265 pounds. She had difficulty walking up stairs.

She now works out three to five times a week. “I can run faster and longer, and I even go for runs outside. This is something I never had the confidence to do in the past.”
