Licking County Wellness Coalition hosts healthy food drive

On Wednesday, Nov. 28, the Licking County Wellness Coalition -- a workgroup part of the Licking County Health Department -- is hosting a food drive, but this one is different from other: They are only accepting healthy foods.

"We want everyone to have access to healthy foods," Bailey McCoy, chair of the Wellness Coalition said. "Some people can't afford it and only have access through donation."

Some examples of food that they are looking for is fresh fruit and vegetables, 100 percent whole wheat bread, and healthy non-meat proteins like beans or chickpeas. They are not accepting any type of highly-processed food or foods high in added or processed sugar.

All donations will be directed to New Beginnings, a domestic violence shelter offering free, confidential emergency shelter and services to community members who are victims of a domestic violence situation and need help with a new beginning.

Collections sites can be found at the Licking County Health Department, 675 Price Rd, Newark, OH 43055, Ross' Granville Market, 484 S Main St, Granville, OH 43023, and Denison University on the second floor of Slayter Union. They will be accepting donations all day.

Any questions can be answered by Bailey McCoy by email, baileydenzy@gmail.com.
