Nutritionist Offers Tips for Healthy Food Bank Donations

A Nutritionist in St. John’s is offering some tips today to ensure your Christmas donation to the food bank is a healthy one.

Tara Antle says oftentimes we’ll go to our cupboards to find a donation in time for the holidays. She reminds that some products are in higher demand than others.

Antle suggests to watch the expiry date, too. Avoid giving canned foods that may be dented. She says calling the food bank ahead of time is a good idea, too, to see what they need.

Antle says when it comes to the family pantry, there are some very healthy and nutritious staples that would benefit all households.

That includes canned beans, almond butter, rolled oats, canned tuna, quinoa, nuts and seeds. Antle says skim milk powder is a great source of protein.
