National honored as healthy workplace

From Local Sources

JASPER — National Office Furniture, a unit of Kimball International Inc., has been recognized as the first office furniture manufacturing company to become Fitwel Certified.

Created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the General Services Administration, Fitwel rates workplaces that promote positive health outcomes for occupants. The recognition reinforces National’s commitment to providing a healthy workspace for its employees.

National received the honor by incorporating evidence-based design and policy strategies that support the physical, mental, and social health of its occupants. Fitwel measures the following aspects when determining certification: impacts community health, reduces morbidity and absenteeism, supports social equity for vulnerable populations, instills feelings of well-being, increases physical activity, promotes occupant safety, and provides healthy food options.

“When National thinks about health and well-being, it’s about more than nutrition and movement,” said Angie Kleinhelter, National’s director of human resources. “We are honored to be recognized with this Fitwel certification because it incorporates environmental surroundings as well as employee health. This certification shows that we are focused on the whole employee and want them to be healthy in all aspects.”
