A poster created by Nya Taylor, a 13-year-old student at Mendenhall Middle School and the daughter of Angelo and Kathleen Taylor, won a competition sponsored by the Greensboro Host Lions Club and cosponsored by the Page High School Leo Club.
Taylor’s poster was among thousands of entries expected worldwide in the annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest.
She earned a $50 award and recognition by the sponsoring clubs. She had a notable quote on the theme of “The Future of Peace” — “In the future, I want to see people of all nations respecting each other’s cultures and lifestyles. We should try to gain more knowledge and understand each other before just criticizing them.”
She is a student in Michaela Hafley’s art class at Mendenhall.
Taylor’s poster has now advanced to the Lions District 31-O round of competition. One grand prize winner and 23 merit award winners will be selected in the international competition. The grand prize includes a cash award of $5,000, plus a trip for the winner and two family members to an awards ceremony. The merit award winners will each receive a certificate and $500.
The Greensboro Host Lions Club meets on the first and third Mondays of each month. For information, call Mark Gaylord at 336-273-1797 or visit www.gsohostlions.org.
