Twenty-four early-stage businesses and nonprofits are going through a three-month Propeller program designed to launch ideas tackling New Orleans’ social and environmental inequities focused on healthy food, education, health services and water management.

Entrepreneurs in the Startup Accelerator will receive hands-on business assistance from Propeller and a team of mentors who bring experience as senior executives at Johnson & Johnson and Walmart, as well as leaders of local institutions like Broad Community Connections and Tulane’s A.B. Freeman School of Business.

Food Ventures

• 2nd Chance Donuts gives second chances to former inmates.

• Clean Course Meals provides prepared nutritious meals.

• Greek Girls Rice Pudding produces a ready-made Greek treat, using Louisiana-sourced ingredients.

• Instar Farm is an all-female team building and maintaining organic edible gardens to teach New Orleanians how to grow food in their backyards.

• Lower 9th Ward Co-op Kitchen serves healthy, locally-sourced food to groups and individuals around the city through a cooperative business.

• Schmelly's Dirt Farm employs graduates of local high school farm programs, connecting urban farms to businesses and residents through use of their compostable trash.

Education Ventures

• Crescent City Corps builds talent for the next generation of law enforcement leaders.

• Erosync is a student transportation consulting agency to improve service and profitability of the transportation programs offered by school networks, individual schools and third-party school bus companies.

• FollowMyCal is a social calendar that centralizes personal, professional and social events to improve parental involvement in schools and student productivity.

• Goshin-Kai Academy is a school for the art of self-protection that fuses literacy, traditional martial arts training and therapy, as well as responsible firearms training, for adherence to local, state and federal laws.

• The Juror Project teaches criminal justice system reform by increasing the diversity of jury panels.

• Science Teachers' Equipment Lending Library provides a share facility for science equipment and teacher planning resources.

Health Ventures

• Huntington Health Innovations creates digital products to help people navigate the health insurance market.

• JustBeFly Fitness is a mobile fitness unit.

• Mymee is an app tackling chronic autoimmune disease through data analytics and health coaching.

• Sista Midwife Productions works to eliminate perinatal disparities by increasing the numbers of black birth workers, teaching families about patient rights and creating transparency and accountability within childbirth education and the medical obstetrical system.

• SPLC Health & Wellness provides screenings and information on warning signs and health care to marginalized individuals and their caregivers.

• What's Your Revolution helps men with their health through peer learning, community events and local media.

• Yoga 504 Youth provides trauma responsive yoga classes to teens.

Water Ventures

• The Great Delta Tours creates educational ecotourism experiences in southeast Louisiana.

• Magnolia Landscape Architecture designs streetscapes and storm water management systems for New Orleans communities.

• Marine Gardens uses recycled and repurposed hazardous mineral waste and geopolymer science to create coastal erosion infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico.

• Orleans Resource Center's patented products include a drag net designed to contain and collect water-borne oiled debris, tar balls and thin oil sheens.

• TBD tackles coastal land loss in Louisiana through surveying, wetland delineation, permitting, planting, monitoring and analysis.
