BEREA, Ohio -- Eating right during months of a pandemic can be challenging. After all, that refrigerator is right in the next room.

Chelsea Mezacapa of Berea Nutrition is close by, too, at West Valley Plaza, with plenty of healthy -- and good-tasting -- options. Berea Nutrition features shakes, coffees and teas with a variety of nutritious boosts, including protein, fiber, probiotics, vitamins and minerals.

Shakes come in a wide selection of flavors, from chocolate and vanilla to dulce de leche and wild berry. Many are gluten-free. There is even a special combination for new moms: It includes vitamins and minerals to support mental performance and focus and to reduce fatigue. Vitamin B6 is added for hormone balance.

Herbal and caffeinated teas can be boosted, too, as can the coffees. They are served hot or cold. The teas contain no sugar.

Check out the Donut Shot. Mezacapa said it “makes you feel full and targets lower belly fat.”

She said the shakes can be a healthy meal replacement. A 16-ounce shake has 24 grams of protein and 21 vitamins and minerals, at only 250 calories.

A first-time business owner, Mezacapa says she was helped by a $2,000 small business grant from the City of Berea.

She opened the store in November after visiting a Nutrition shop in North Olmsted. A Berea resident, Mezacapa said she was so impressed that she wanted to bring the franchise to her hometown.

She said there are 15 Nutrition locations in the Greater Cleveland area -- all with different owners. “We’re independent, but part of the same team,” she said.

“We’re a healthy alternative for everybody,” Mezacapa said. Clients include high school and college students, as well as their parents and grandparents.
