Kick Off 2018 With These Healthy Food Trends

Start the New Year with some of 2018’s top noshes in the health food category.

Trend: Macadamia Nut Milk

The new dairy-free option on the market has a creamier texture than other refrigerated nut-based milk alternatives. We like the Milkadamia line: It’s available in Original, Unsweetened, Latte or Vanilla flavors. Choose the Original flavor and you get less sugar and more vitamin B per serving compared to similar almond milk varieties.

Trend: Matcha

This powdered green tea is steeped in Japanese culture, but it’s gaining popularity stateside thanks to metabolism-boosting and cancer-fighting antioxidants. Sip on Pure Leaf Matcha With Ginger Tea, which comes in portable single-serving sachets that you add to hot water.

Trend: Almond Oil

Not all fats are bad, which is why new oils with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats are popping up in all kinds of foods. Kettle Brand’s new potato chips are made using 100 percent almond oil, which not only helps elevate levels of “good” cholesterol, but also can reduce inflammation. Available in Wood Smoked Sea Salt or Fiery Thai flavors, each 13-chip serving contains about 140 calories and 7g fat.

Trend: Beets

Immune-boosting beets are chock-full of vitamin C and bone-building manganese. Try RW Garcia’s 3 Seed Sweet Beet Crackers, with flaxseed and chia for improved digestion. Each 16-cracker serving has only 1g sugar and will set you back just 130 calories.
