Want healthy food without sacrificing flavor? A Utah company can help.

LINDON, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - A Utah County man's quest to lower his blood sugar has turned into a booming business.  Now, health nuts everywhere are hooked on his unique products.

Step by step, Danielle Hayes teaches a hungry group of boys the art of blending a scrumptious smoothie.

For them, it is a chocolate-peanut butter treat they can make for themselves next time, but thanks to a couple of key ingredients like PBfit Plus and Organic Agave, the working mom says everyone wins.

"They love them.  It's great for them.  It's nutritious for them.  It's convenient," Hayes smiled.

That is the whole point, according to the man who created the popular line of health products.  Stephen Richards, who comes from a family of diabetics, says his brand BetterBody Foods is all about giving people organic, gluten-free, Kosher, non-GMO products without sacrificing flavor.

"That's how BetterBody [Foods] was actually born, and we use that same business model today," Richards says.

Richards and his team identify trends that can legitimately make a difference in people's lives.
They then import natural ingredients from 20 countries around the world to turn their ideas into a reality that benefits customers.

"I don't think people are getting the nutrition in their diet that they need, generally, and part of that is they just don't have time to eat really healthy," Richards said.

Employees say these days, people do what is convenient.

"We kind of coined the phrase, 'Blending is the new baking,' and the reason we came up with that phrase is baking in general is just on the decline," Hayes explained.

Hayes, who heads the company's sales department, says that is one reason their LIVfit Superfood blending line took off so quickly, but BetterBody Foods also continues cranking out oils, grains, and healthy alternatives of all kinds in their 110,000 square-foot facility.

Today, despite selling to every major grocer and club across the United States and earning major titles like Earnston Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Richards says the sweetest reward for his work is providing jobs and opportunities for his diverse work force in Utah County.

"A hundred employees... they're being well compensated, they can feed their families, they can give their families an education..." Richards smiled.  "I can't even begin to tell you how thrilling that is."
