Methodist Men

plan chili supper

United Methodist Men of Kaufman will hold their annual benefit chili and stew supper Thursday, Nov. 16 from 5-8 p.m. at the Kaufman County Fairgrounds. The event includes prize drawings and a dessert auction, which helps fund charitable activities throughout the year, including the Emergency Response Team and youth and scouting groups.

Eat Healthy Food Distribution

The monthly Eat Healthy food distribution sponsored by Texas Health Kaufman and local organizations will be Saturday, Nov. 18 at 9 a.m. until supplies last at Texas Health Kaufman, in the back, sponsored by TVCC nursing students, and Dec. 16 at Texas Health Kaufman. For $5, receive a reusable bag with 15-20 healthy food items. No screening for the purchase.

Care Portal holding county launch

The Kaufman and Rockwall County community launch of the Care Portal. It will be held Saturday, Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the recreation center of the First Baptist in Terrell.

The Care Portal connects families and children in crisis with local churches to help meet their needs, whether physical, spiritual or emotional.

The launch event includes a poverty simulation.

Diabetes group schedules program

A Guide to Doctor Visits will be the program for the Diabetes Support Group Saturday, Nov. 18 from 10-11 a.m. at Texas Health Kaufman, basement conference room. Call Anita Hurtado at 972-932-5252 for more information. The support group meets months and is free. No preregistration is required.

Jake E’s Christmas open house

Jake E’s Riding Roundup hosts its annual Christmas Open House and Parade Saturday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 10626 FM 429. Events include parades at noon and 2 p.m., live nativity, facility tours, and Christmas goodies.

Monthly hiring events

The Terrell Workforce Center schedules hiring events on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m. until noon at 109 Tejas Dr., Suite 300. Prospective employees should bring a resume and must be registered at WorkinTexas.com.

The Foundation Stone Group

The Foundation Stone Group is a 12-step recovery program for all struggles serving men and women.

Meetings are held each Monday and Thursday from 6:30-7:30 p.m.at New Hope Church community center, 1119 County Road 278, Kaufman, phone 469-595-4905.

Family Support Group

Kaufman County National Alliance on Mental Illness has a family support group meeting the third Thursday of each month from 6:30-8 p.m. at Lakes Regional Center, 400 Airport Road in Terrell and the fourth Thursday of each month from 6:30-8 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman in Basement Room A. Grandparents

Day Out

Casey’s Place on County Road 143 will hold Grandparents Day Out on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program is aimed at grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. The Free 2B Me Day Camp is for ages 4-13. Call 972-932-5156 to reserve a spot.

Boosters Meet

The Kaufman Athletic Boosters Club meets the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the KHS Library during the regular school year. This organization is for parents of all KISD athletes.

Donations

Kaufman Christian Help Center launched a new website that facilitates online donations. Go to www.kaufmanhelp.org to make a one time donation or set up regular recurring donations. This website comes at a great time due to the record number of clients of over 700 clients a month.

Victory Church

Restoration at Victory Church. Restoration through Redemption in Christ, A Recovery Ministry meets every Tuesday night at Victory Church in Scurry.  Fellowship 6:30-7 p.m., Main meeting 7-8 p.m. and Small Groups 8-9 p.m. 7325 S. State Hwy. 34   469-585-1226

Kaufman County Commissioners

The Kaufman County Commissioners meet on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 9 a.m. at the Kaufman County Court House Annex, 100 W. Mulberry St.

Story time

Pre-school story time at 11 a.m. every Wednesday at the Kaufman County Library, located at 3790 S. Houston St., Kaufman.

City Council

The Kaufman City Council meets the last Monday of the month in the Kaufman ISD meeting room, 1000 S. Houston, at 6 p.m. Meeting dates and location have been adjusted to accommodate the reconstruction of city hall, beginning in October 2016. Check the city’s website for additional information.

Lions Club

The Kaufman Lions Club meets each Friday at noon at the Kaufman County Library’s Community room. Located at 3790 S. Houston St., Kaufman.

County Historical Commission

The Kaufman County Historical Commission meets on the second Tuesday every other month, on odd numbered months, at 4:30 p.m. in the commission office, in the Kaufman County South Campus.

Sharing Community Resources

The Sharing Community Resources Coalition meets monthly on the fourth Thursday from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Kaufman County Library, 3790 S. Houston St. in Kaufman. November meeting is the 16th and December meeting is the 14th. Its purpose is to educate families about vital services through networking with other professionals, sharing effective community referrals, and marketing community events and programs.

Meals on Wheels

Kaufman County Senior Citizens serves meals Monday through Friday at the senior center at 112 S. Jackson St. and also delivers Meals on Wheels.
